AA Products — Cross-Border

Sort the border
before you reach it.

Driving into Zimbabwe, Mozambique or further north? The paperwork is not optional — and negotiating it at a border post is nobody’s idea of a holiday. We arrange it here first.

What you may need

Three documents that keep you moving.

Third-Party Insurance

Compulsory cover for driving your own vehicle into Zimbabwe or Mozambique.

Both countries require proof of third-party liability cover at the border. We issue it before you leave so you are not negotiating at a border post.

COMESA Yellow Card

Regional third-party motor cover across 13+ African member states.

One document recognised throughout the COMESA region — the practical choice for longer overland trips through multiple countries.

Carnet de Passage

The passport for your vehicle when you travel further afield.

A customs document that allows the temporary admission of your vehicle into a foreign country without paying import duties.

Before you go

Requirements change. Ask us first.

Border requirements shift — sometimes at short notice, and often differently depending on whether the vehicle is yours, financed, rented or borrowed. A letter of authority from your bank, a police clearance, or a certified copy of the registration document may all come into it.

Tell us the countries on your route and what you’ll be driving, and we’ll tell you exactly what to bring. It is a five-minute conversation that saves a very long day at a border post.

Driving out of the country?

Add an International Driving Permit while you’re here — you’ll want one for the rental desk on the other side.
